What is the W3C?

W3C is an abbreviation used to refer to the World Wide Web Consortium, a collection of organizations that has developed and promoted all of the major web standards since the mid 1990s.  Among the most well known standards developed by the W3C are XML, CSS, XHTML and most versions of HTML.
