What is SQL?
SQL, usually pronounced "sequel", is a computer language used to communicate with relational database management systems (RDBMS). "SQL" stands for Structured Query Language and was originally designed for use with IBM's relational database management systems in the 1970s. SQL was eventually standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) but has nonetheless splintered into a series of dialects among many of the relational database management systems in use.
