What is mod_perl?
The mod_perl project allows for the complete integration of the Apache Software Foundation's HTTP Server with the Perl programming language. Initially, mod_perl was created as a way to eliminate the resource overhead associated with Perl CGI applications. As Perl via CGI used to be the dominant means of developing web applications functionality, mod_perl gained a large and loyal following and has continued to be developed and refined ever since.
